For many generations, this Madeiran manor house in the beautiful Santa Luzia district was used as a farm, first for sugarcane and later as a banana plantation. An 18th-century turret, the eponymous “Torrinha,” has long since disappeared, but the spirit and memories of the traditional country house remain. A ceiling relief depicting a cornucopia – the symbol of abundance, plenty, and generosity – has inspired the host, who has reinterpreted the spirit of the Quinta and meticulously and luxuriously restored the property.

An abundance of natural beauty and a wealth of exclusive, tailor-made experiences define the philosophy at Quinta Torrinha, where privacy and personality are key. The 5,000 m² estate, with its terraced gardens and pool areas, becomes a luxurious home for a maximum of 20 guests. Warm, personal attention enhances the feeling of a private retreat, and whatever guests desire, the hosts are happy to share insider tips and organize individual excursions and activities.

Many years ago, Matthias Hunziker fell in love with Madeira – with its vibrant floral splendor and evergreen subtropical nature – and the island became his favorite destination. In 2019, he then fell for Quinta Torrinha, which was for sale at the time, and here the Swiss native found his role and his “new home” as an enthusiastic host able to combine his passions. He expresses his creativity in design and as a passionate gardener, and his signature style is evident both in the newly designed garden landscape and in the elegant interior of the Quinta. As Matthias says, “Quinta Torrinha is more than a boutique accommodation. It’s a feeling, a lifestyle.”
