✍️ Description from the real estate agent
On the hills of Umbria, in a very quiet and peaceful location, a former Benedictine abbey has been transformed into a luxury boutique hotel. The property has been finely restored with careful consideration of its immense historical value, preserving all of its main features and creating a unique atmosphere.
Set at 600 metres above sea level, the abbey offers 18 bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms, together with a cozy restaurant, a 10,000 sq.m. park with a swimming pool, and a setting surrounded by silence and tranquillity.
The former abbey revolves around the original Romanesque church, built in the 13th century by Benedictine monks over the remains of a Langobardic watchtower, which was itself built over a preexisting Roman settlement.
On the ground floor, next to the church, a welcoming restaurant and breakfast room for guests is complemented by a professional kitchen and two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. The church has been converted into a charming conference and event hall, with a pleasant bar created in the former sacristy.
The first and second floors, reached via multiple staircases both inside and outside, comprise five independent apartments, each featuring a living area with cooking corner, bedroom, and bathroom, together with three bedrooms with en suite bathrooms.
Located not far from the abbey, the country house is a two story building comprising the owner's house, with an ample living room with cooking corner, two bedrooms and bathroom, as well as the guest reception, a spacious suite on the first floor with sitting area, bedroom and bathroom, and three bedrooms with en suite bathrooms.
The property was fully restored in 2008, preserving all the main features, including beautiful 16th century frescoes inside the church and the rustic finishes of the abbey.
The buildings are surrounded by a well maintained and elegantly manicured garden spanning over 10,000 sq.m., home to colorful flowers, gravel walkways, and secular trees. Not far from the abbey lies the heated 16 × 7 metre swimming pool, surrounded by a stone paved sunbathing area amidst the lawn.
Around the park, 2.4 hectares of land, almost entirely covered in woodland, shelter the property from prying eyes and ensure silence and tranquillity. Just south of the abbey is a spacious gravel parking lot for guests.
This exceptional property brings together centuries of history, carefully preserved architecture, elegant hospitality spaces, and the peaceful beauty of the Umbrian landscape, creating an atmosphere that is both deeply authentic and refined.
